Hi, I’m Mia, and I’ve got a super-secret. All my life I thought I was ordinary. But I just found out that I’m… a superhero!

Review

This marks the first of many First Reader reviews for us, I have a feeling. While this book is not the first early chapter book we have read, it’s definitely one of Madeline’s favorites so far. Not all that surprising considering her love of superheroes. In fact, the moment I saw this one up for requests from the publisher, I knew we had to have it. Of course, at the time I was taking a bit of a risk. I had only just picked up some First Readers to try a couple days before. I never really considered them an option for my attention-of-a-squirrel three year old. But my best friend had been telling me just how into these types of books her own three year old is, and I thought it would be an awesome way to keep Madeline’s attention, if possible, and carve out more time for the two of us to spend together. I am pleased to say that this is the case 90% of the time. Sometimes even Mia Mayhem can’t keep her sitting still through a full read. Other times she doesn’t budge for four books. It has been a surprising and rewarding experience. And Mia Mayhem is a big part of that.

I asked Madeline to tell me why she likes these books so much (we bought book 2&3 the first chance we got after reading book 1) and in her own words: “I like that she flies and freezes stuff.” Me too, Maddie Mae, me too.
