The Hamilton Movie

So the fact that we will finally get a chance, not just to see the musical, but see it with the original cast that I’ve memorized due to repeated song-playing, is truly the best news we’ve heard so far this year.

Why we’re so excited for the new Hamilton Movie!

So if you haven’t heard, Disney announced that they will be releasing a theatrical version of the musical, Hamilton, and we could not be more excited for it. For some reason, it’s still a million years away from being released (Oct 2021). So this is honestly a huge tease. But we’ll while away the YEARS of waiting resting easy in the knowledge that it will feature all the original cast. This is because it was actually filmed over the first years with this specific intention. Which means it’s going to be amazing. But honestly, we would be happy with a bootleg iPhone video, as long as we get to finally witness it. Because those tickets are expensive. Like, can’t-pay-the-mortgage-this-month-because-we-went-to-see-Hamilton level of expensive. When the musical came to New Orleans last year, we were thrilled to finally have a chance to see it, but our excitement was cut short when we realized we could just not justify spending that much money right when we were about to start our youngest daughter in daycare. (Curse you, daycare costs)!

One of the reasons we were so excited about the show coming to a theater within easy driving distance to us is that while I discovered Hamilton through the CD and then later the book about the play, my husband refused to experience it this way. I had no idea he was such a theater snob, but he really just wanted his first experience with it to be the full experience. I can’t fault him for that. It’s incredible, from what I’ve heard. So when we thought we had a chance to see it, I was really excited to finally get to share this obsession with him. And then our dreams were dashed by our budget and I resigned myself to the fact that my husband would just forever miss out on this amazing musical. So the fact that we will finally get a chance, not just to see the musical, but see it with the original cast that I’ve memorized due to repeated song-playing, is truly the best news we’ve heard so far this year.

If you just can’t wait until October, we suggest getting your Hamilton fix with the original soundtrack or this book (taking you on a backstage tour of the Broadway play)!
