Heather runs the YouTube channel, Bookables, which has over 72k subscribers! Reading is a passion of hers and she loves sharing books she’s read, books she plans to read in the future as well as general book talk.  You will find a plethora of things on her channel like book reviews, book hauls, book tags, author interviews and more! She does videos about TV Shows and Movies from time to time as well.

She’s 28 years old and married with a 2 1/2 year old son.  She works as a wedding photographer which is her other passion. If you haven’t seen her channel yet, we highly recommend checking it out!

At what age did you find your love of books and what are some of your early favorites?

Middle School was my time where I blossomed into a reader. My Dad is an avid reader; where he reread the Lord of The rings countless times, I did the same with the Harry Potter series. I also volunteered in my middle school’s library everyday and every chance I could, any chance to be near books I took the opportunity.

Some of my early favorites were:

The Harry Potter Series by J.K Rowling
Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
Holes by Louis Sacher
Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit

What’s your favorite genre and who are some of your favorite authors?

I have so many favorite genres. Every year that passes, I add a new favorite genre to the list.

My top 3 favorite genres would have to be:

-Young Adult Contemporary
-Adult Womens Fiction
-Adult Literary Fiction

Some of my favorite authors are:

-Taylor Jenkins Reid
-Rainbow Rowell
-Sarah J. Maas
-Fredrik Backmann

When did you start posting videos on YouTube and what made you want to start?

I started posting in 2012 which feels like a lifetime ago. I started posting because I wanted an outlet to talk to someone about reading. None of my friends or family love reading as much as I do so I had no one to talk about books with, then one day I stumbled upon Booktube and I fell in love.

How long does a typical video take to create from start to finish (setup, filming, editing, posting etc)?

I have a list of video ideas to film so I would say from the first initial thought process to posting takes me a week, editing is where the bulk of the work lies.

How do you find time to read and review so many books?

I read whenever I can. I try to read each morning before my son wakes up and after he goes to bed. I try to sneak in reading whenever possible, even if it’s only 5 pages. Some months if I’m reading a genre like fantasy it takes me much longer to read where if I am reading contemporary, I finish those very quickly.

What equipment do you use?

Cannon D Mark II
50mm 1.2 lens
Rode Mic

What is your typical day like?

Typical mom life honestly, nothing amazing. I wake up around 5am each day to edit and reply to emails and work on Youtube. After that it’s being Mom all day. I read whenever I can fit in.

What do you enjoy most about being a Booktuber?

The community. The friendships I’ve made on Booktube mean the world to me and the community is so friendly and welcoming.  It’s a breath of fresh air.

What are the biggest challenges?

Time. Time is always hard to find for me these days when it come to Booktube.

What advice would you give others who are starting their own YouTube channel?

Just go for it. If you love reading and want an outlet to talk about it, don’t hesitate. Be yourself, nobody else. Also you don’t have to have a fancy background to film in front of and you don’t have to own an insane number of books. Lighting and audio are key components to a good video in my opinion.

Big thanks to Heather for doing this interview!  You can check out her YouTube channel here, and her Instagram here!
