Little Linh is the cleverest little witch on Mai Mai Island. She has all the things a little witch needs: a trusty broomstick, a book of spells, and a magical pet. She also has something she definitely does NOT need: a baby brother.
Little Link tries to give him away, but even the Orphanage for Lost and Magical Creatures won’t take him. What’s a clever little witch to do?
Maybe she can turn him into something nicer, like a goldfish. After all, what could possibly go wrong?
Review
This is a super fun story about a little witch who really doesn’t want her brother messing up her stuff anymore, and since no one will take him (she has tried a lot of places) she decides to turn him into a goldfish. But things go wrong, then worse, then terribly wrong as she tries to adjust her spell. Turns out, a little brother isn’t necessarily the worst thing to have! With bright, beautiful colors, and fun illustrations, this story really captures our imaginations. With a little sibling of our own, we can definitely appreciate how much our routines and our things get messed up, so we commiserate with Linh. With this story featuring a witch, it was nice to see that it wasn’t actually halloween themed. It’s nice to have magic in the stories we read without them being tied to a certain holiday, since I tuck our holiday books away when they aren’t in season. (I’m not about to be reading about Santa in June, sorry).
