Review
This book came into our lives at the perfect time. A week after we got it, we were taking our very first trip away together (sans kids) since before we had Madeline, and we were headed to New York City! So I used this book to show her the city we would be going to and give her reference to the things we would talk to her about each night while we were gone. She had such a fun time reading about the city and getting into the mystery of the Big Apple! She went around asking us mischievously if we were going to the Big Apple.
As a parent, I worried about the main character just running around that city by herself, and hoped Madeline wouldn’t get any ideas of exploring city places without us. Usually kids exploring places sans parents doesn’t bother me, but because it’s an actual city it did get into my mind a bit. Apart from that, though, it was a fun adventure and Madeline didn’t seem to be too aware of that particular aspect, so I think it was just my own worries reading into it.
