Picture Book Review: You are My Happy

This book bridges the gap between both my girls’ ages really well.

We were gifted this copy to feature, and chose to review it as well.

What makes us happy all day through? Let’s count those things, just me and you…

Inspired by her own nighttime routine with her daughter, Haley Joy, Today show co-anchor Hoda Kotb has written a book that celebrates the things that make us happy each day… the big things and the small.

You are My Happy

Review

This is an adorable little book that celebrates our day to day accomplishments and tasks that bring happiness in some form or another. The book starts off with the mother bear recounting a few of her own things about the baby bear that she is grateful for. Things that as a mom I can relate to. Basically just watching baby bear grow and being so happy about all the little milestones (as well as some luck in kid-induced bumps and bruises). It goes on to cover the things that would more likely be celebrated by baby bear/a child, like having fun with friends and taking big new steps in the world. The illustrations are very cute, and I especially love the fact that this cake with a little print of the bears wreathed in florals, because it just so happens to match my own baby Bear’s (as we call the little one) bedroom decor!

This is a great book to read to both of my girls, as I feel like these sort of books bridge the gap between them really well. Madeline enjoys it on one level, but it’s simple enough that Maren can enjoy it as well. There’s not a story, really with this one, so much, which is the kind I tend to prefer (because I’m an adult reader who enjoys as good story arc), but I love being able to bring the girls together over books, which this one does well because of the lack of story arc. And sharing books with both of my girls is definitely my happy!
